The Harris Group is a privately owned parent company which has a wide range of trading subsidiaries. The group's main activities are concentrated in transport and logistics, truck sales and aftermarket support, spare parts sales and forecourt parts.
The Harris Companies of a Bygone Era include Harris Haulage, Harris Travel, Harris Buses, Harris Coaches and Tunnel Truck Hire. These businesses no longer exist but are a heritage of the Harris Group.
The Company also used to operate a Petroleum haulage company trading as "Suckling Transport" which was the Main Contractor for Shell in Scotland and the West County/Wales and Conoco Phillips, where Suckling was the main contractor for the South East of England. It ran a fleet of 80 tanker vehicles plus a substantial number of unbranded tanker vehicles, that were used for hire in the short-term market to the petroleum industry. This business was sold in 2013 and is no longer part of the Harris Group.
The Fourth Generation of the Harris Family are working within the business. The Harris Group prides itself on being a well known and long established family business with the Grays area which has employed local people for many years.
